| I saw "Slime" mentioned on this thread, sort of in passing, and wondered if that would be a worthwhile investment for someone who does not have to contend with sand burrs or goatheads but would like a little extra insurance against flats, particularly at 4:30 AM on the way to work? Not that I know anyone like that, just speaking hypothetically... _________________ Burn more carbohydrates, fewer hydrocarbons

| Slime, IMHO, is messy and not worth the bother. If you puncture, it will eventually clot up the hole, but until it does, it gets all over everything. But, as always, YMMV. Mark _________________ Bicycling is my drug of choice. Followed closely by beer.

| Life is full of crappy little compromises. In a target rich environment (for goatheads) the weight and mess hassle of Slime is definitely worth it. If all you want is a little extra insurance, maybe Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires, and/or thorn tubes are the way to go. |

| In Phoenix LBS's, thornproof tubes are almost standard. I don't know of a single shop who sells new bikes without them. Knock on wood, I have had only two flats in all of the riding I have done here. One was as a result of my running over some glass, and the other was as a result of MY bad: I pinched the tube when I put new tires and tubes on my Batavus Course. _________________ BluesCat -----> 2008 Sun EZ Sport CX - "Bluetiful", 2001 Giant Yukon SE - "The Roadley", 1986 Batavus Course - "DutchGrl"---------0 ---------\__^o\ ------(*)`"''"""(*) |
