Flags

Post by BCTriker on Tue Nov 17, 2009 4:04 pm

Hello fellow trikers, I own a Catrike Trail. Bought in July '09 CTT#846, silver with a Windwrap fairing. The fairing is keeping my feet dry and minimizing the headwinds. Any other Canadian trikers out there, I'm in B.C. Vancouver area. The traffic out here can get pretty heavy at times and the use of a flag on a trike is essential. I don't see many recumbents where I ride, so the Trail is a very different vehicle on the road, and the drivers always give me a wide berth. I have always had a flag with different varieties, I have the Catrike flag and a medium sized windsock. I just recieved a tiny windsock from our grandson, just 4yrs old, he loves windsocks. I had two windsocks flying once but the drag was really noticable. Do any other trikers fly flags and what do yours look like.

I have 2 of these B & C: http://www.soundwindsairarts.com/spiral.html
I use them any time I ride on the road. They do create a bit of drag especially into a headwind.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Racer46.....thankyou for the welcome, those flags remind me of ones I was looking at when I 1st got into triking about 5yrs ago. I loved them then and still do.

Welcome, BCTriker.

Pretty cold in Vancouver right now, isn't it? What's your winter riding setup? Clothes, gear, etc?

Hello Walt, BlueCat....Yes it can get cool, right now the temp in Belligham, Washington state is in the mid 40's to low 50'sF, we're not far north about 150mi. our temp. has gotten a little warmer 7c with a weather system (the pineapple exress) from the south. Only problem with that is the rain and wind gusts from 50-70k. We've had a lot rain in the last few days that would equal the total rain for the month of November, our wettest month.
I fashioned a rear fender from an old fender that had broken on my other trike, but now that its really getting wet out there I'll have to buy a proper set.
I have a bright blue hooded rain pullover with a pocket pouch in front, also I often wear a light sqall rain jacket its a bright yellow that almost looks fluorescent. I have light rain pants and a heavier rain pant, both clip tight at the ankle cuffs, but the Windwrap fairing keeps my legs from mid thighs to my feet, dry. I just bought a helmet cover that has a brim and a neck/collar cover. I have the boots that velcro on to the shoe but I have'nt used them yet. I have riding gloves that I always use but when it gets really wet I use a waterproof glove thats also warm. Because I wear glasses I aquired safety glasses that are made to cover glasses, they work excellent and don't fog up.

BCTriker: I've been thinking about getting some safety glasses to wear over my own spectacles; it's getting to be that temperature in the morning where my eyes are starting to water when I leave the house and spin up.

I'm also going to have to get some full-fingered gloves. I gave my BMX gloves to my son and my fingerless gloves just aren't cutting on these chilly mornings.

Hi All....Thought I'd update this thread....I've been riding a while now with my Catflag (33") with the Catrike name sewn in. Looks very nice and I also connected a very small Windsock (15") to the top of the flag pole. I'm very happy how Gerry at Catflags accommodated my needs and the color choices.

I think I have you all beat in the flag, "notice me" department. On top of the mask I have streamers. about 8 to 10 inches long. The mask is a sectional fiberglass rod that comes apart in the middle but the streamers that are electrically taped on comes in a 150 roll about 1 inch wide. day-glow green .... construction tape Very Happy
