Have you noticed ???? When a vehicle passes actually indicating the intention to overtake you have space to breathe safely. In Australia where I live cyclists have tried a "leave a meter " campaign without much success. Do you think we could start and promote an international effort to persuade motorists to signal when overtaking a cyclist. ( its actually in the law already with regard to passing another road user in many countries) Believe me when the drivers are prompted to think by signaling it makes a great difference to our safety.
Any ideas for a slogan ????

When they Signal they give you Space 487452 Welcome to the forum, tasman.

We have a "3 Foot Law" in Arizona: Arizona Revised Statutes 28-735. When overtaking a bicyclist, a motorist is supposed to keep a minimum of three feet between his/her vehicle and the bicycle at all times.

You would be surprised at the number of policemen who are unaware of it!

A slogan? Hmmmmmm. Hey, I got it:

My boxing reach is about three feet ... better stay farther away than that.

Howszat?

Yep, I've got a few "3 Feet Please" bumper stickers and a bright yellow T-shirt that says the same thing. Problem with the shirt is you can't see when I'm riding in my recliner!!!! I emailed Joe at http://www.3feetplease.com/home a while back about something for recumbents but never got a response. I may just email him again about possibly coming up with some sort of sticker or patch or something that I could put on the rear of my trunk bag or something along those lines.

I saw a guy riding down the road with a flag mounted horizontal off the back of his bike. It stuck out about 2 feet from the bike. Don't know if it helped.

Yea, I've seen some fully loaded tourists come by with that kind of setup. I'm not sure that I like it, it would seem to get in the way especially in some tight quarters, plus, I don't want anyone to focus on the flag and not me.
