Have Trikes Will Travel
We are taking our Trikes on quite a trek.
From our home province in Alberta we'll cross Saskachewan west to east and head into Manitoba.
Cross into the US of A at the International Peace Gardens (N.D. & Manitoba) - hope the border guards are in a good mood that day.
We head east across North Dakota and into Minn. & stop at Lake Itasca - headwaters of the Mississippi River.
We head south, basically following the Mississippi River south driving through Minn. Wisc. Iowa, Illinois, Missouri.
We'll stop at Columbus Kentucky - on the shores of the Mississippi - then head across country through Kentucky & Tennessee to Columbus Mississippi our destination. Our son & daughter in law are expecting our first grandbaby.
We spend about 12 days in Columbus - with a side trip south to New Orleans to pick up our daughter who is flying in to see her nephew and then join us for the trip back. So we'll see the Gulf Coast, not that we'll be doing any swimming, the beaches are all closed.
Our trip back takes us across the Mississippi into Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas (near Amerillo) New Mexico (sleeping in the shadow of Capulin Vulcano) and then head north through the Colorado Rockies - across the wide open spaces of Wyoming, through Yellowstone - say Hi to Yogi, then through Montana and back into Alberta.
30 days start to finish. about 9,000 km.
So - where are the MUST cycle paths we should try to include. Looking for spots close to Columbus as we'll have more time there. But campsites with great paved trails. We ride Catrike Villagers with skinny tires so no gravel or off road cycling for these cultured cyclist
Rides under 10 K please - my longest so far this year is 9 k ride around Jesse Lake in Bonnyville AB - very nice ride if you are up this way.

If you're headed south to New Orleans then hit the Tammany Trace just across the Lake Ponchitrain http://www.tammanytrace.org/ and the Longleaf Trace in Misssissippi just outside of Hattiesburg http://www.mylongleaftrace.com/ These are both completely paved trails are are great places to ride.
Enjoy your trip,
Walt

Our trip down to New Orleans is to pick up our daugher as she is flying into NO International. We'll spend the night and see a few sights and head back to Columbus - so the Lake Ponchitrain will have to wait till another trip, ... but the Longleaf one may be done. I know a chap in Hattisburg and it is not that far south - make for an interesting day with a ride and sights to see.
Thanks for the tip.

There used to be a paved bike path along one of the Levees, you can check with the local bike club here http://www.neworleansbicycleclub.org/rides.htm
