I am in the beginning stages of considering a couple of weeks prowling the Blue Ridge Parkway sometime this summer. I have read that it is the most amazing cycling experience in the country. For a guy that spends his life in central Florida's flatness I think it would be an unforgettable experience. My tentative plan is to purchase a trailer to pull behind my Trice Q and maybe camp then motel every other night. I am hoping to find someone or preferably someones to accompany me on this epic adventure. I am a 55 year old male and my pace is generally a tad more brisk than you would expect from an old(ish) fart; However I don't plan to set any expectation or goals on any given day except to have a good time and hopefully not get eaten by any bears. Please keep us updated. Although I've driven it end to end I've only bicycled a few sections of it, mostly the "Parkway North/Skyline Drive" sections riding out of Front Royal and Luray, VA. End to end by bike is something I may be interested in, although I'd be going on a Surly LHT DF.

Road part of it from Luray to the northern end a year ago. I too am from flat Florida on the east coast. From my experience I should have spent a few more trips over our Florida mountains. I personally plan on doing the entire length the summer of 2010 in celebration of turning 60. I will probably have my family as a support crew in the traveling house and leap frog going from the south to the north. Probably will start at the beginning of July after VBS is over at the end of June.

My brother-in-law and his family live in Luray.

My in-laws still own property just outside of Willis, VA, just a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. They no longer live on the property, but when they did we used to visit them and have very fond memories of the area.

icftwltv, how do you like your Trice Q? Test rode one about two months ago and fell in love with it. After settling with my corporate partner, Uncle Sam, I'm hoping to be sealing the deal. Definitely keep us updated on your potential summer excursion.

When my son went back to visit his grandparents in Blacksburg, he also got a chance to swing way up north to Luray to visit his aunt, uncle and infant cousin. We have several pictures of his uncle and him standing in front of a big statue of Yogi Bear, that's got to be in Jelly Stone, right?

I'm still trying to figure out a way to "celebrate" (is that the word we really use?!?) my Sixtieth. Right now, I can't think of anything I'd rather do than take a tour on a recumbent, and I need to get back there to visit everybody anyway ... so let's say a tentative "yes" to it.

By that time I should actually be in better physical condition, and if I'm like everybody else around here it looks like a fast SWB is in my future.
