I work in the mechanical industry now with AutoCAD but have been a mechanic, platter and pipefitter. I have never built a recumbent or a work stand but I can see that it takes time to get it right. I can use the facilities if I need to make something.

I’m getting older 53 years old but still in reasonable shape but know I will be slower.
Before I got a recumbent I didn’t have any racing experience but now have been to a few.
The fastest are of course faster but the most important is to be able to complete if possible get some exercise meet other riders get fresh air and enjoy the scenery. I’m the only one on a recumbent here in this area that races. On an upright I wasn’t able to ride that far and fast because of the discomfort.

I have started drinking a special herb tea Maté that’s supposed to be very healthy one of the claims are that it will slow down the ageing process! One of my co workers commented that I started too late. Very Happy

We're in the process of remodeling our place, it will probably take us through next year. An expanded utility room is in the tentative plans, and I would like to include a bike work stand in it. I'll keep your stand in mind.

Peder:

I've worked with AutoCAD, in the civil engineering arena, since 1987. With the advent of Civil 3D, I've seen a lot of "cutting corners" in the industry: people depending upon the software to do what a real, thinking engineer should do.

At 59-years-young, and with a scarred up lung from a combination of Valley Fever and pneumonia, I know I am a lot slower than I used to be. BUT, the recumbent sure does give me a leg up on some of the younger guys on their DFs ... in certain situations.

I’m not an engineer I work on ISO drawings that are used for building pipes.
I add things needed for production.
There are engineers that draw these structures in different programs but the ISO drawings are printed out in AutoCAD. My work isn’t that complicated but it’s interesting to learn something new.

Some of these drawing programs are becoming more user friendly.

I have always had ideas which some times were useful in production.
I also had an idea that worked with AutoCAD.
A programmer was contacted to make a program which we can launch in AutoCAD to do some routine work much easier and faster then before it was installed.

When I was a worker and the ideas were accepted I got some money for each idea or special tool I made.

When I came up with this idea for AutoCAD they said they didn’t have that routine for giving the office workers money for good ideas.
They have saved a considerable amount of money because they need less people to do the job.

Yeah, years ago I developed a couple of little LISP routines to do some general, materials listing page setup stuff. The current features of Civil 3D for this stuff look really similar.

This is probably boring for those that don’t use a drafting program.
The extra program made it possible to change the attributes in en entire folder.
We have built 4 big structures that were very similar.
Before we had to open one drawing then change (project name, number and some other details) what needed to be changed and save it.
Now we can open one drawing and edit the attributes on the all the other drawings in that folder. So now I can edit one hundred drawings if there are that many in a folder by just editing one drawing when this program is started.

I did think about that after my last answer.
You can also make accessories for your recumbent like a tail box or full fairing.
One thing is drawing what you want to build the other problem might be building it? nice bike
For most people it’s easier just to buy an available commercial product.

Hi everyone:
I live in Central Point Oregon and I am retired. I have done a lot of touring, from home in Oregon to Nebraska two times, form home in Oregon to Winter Park Florida where I used to live. Also a lot of shorties. I ride between 200 and 300+ a week. I also make a recumbent and trike work stand that Hostel Shoppe and some other shops are selling. I have a web site, www.recumbentandtrikeworkstand.com Still like to tour and hope to tpur again this next summer from here to Florida again.

Welcome jarhead047,

We met at the Midwest recumbent rally. I was the one walking around with the 2 Miniature Pinchers. I like your stand.

Keep us posted if you do the Florida ride, as I'll probably join you for a few miles.

Hi I.M. bent, Yes I remember you with your dogs at the rally. Could you let people know about my stand for my please. I am signing up dealers around the country and the stands are starting to sell. I would like for more people to use my web site to buy my stands if they would.
My trip to Florida will be a long one. I will start in Oregon and go across to Mass. and then down to Fl. It would be nice to have some riders ride with me now and then or all the way.
Take care, Jim

Welcome to the Forum, Jarhead! BTW, back when I was in the Navy, "Jarhead" was a term used to refer to a U.S. Marine - any connection there?
