PostSubject: Hydraulic Brakes   Thu Dec 25, 2008 6:15 pm

Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic brakes, I have a set on my tandem and the right side isn't working. I know it has air in the line but I'm not sure how to go about bleeding the system or if I have to have special tools for the procedure. Question

I haven’t worked on hydraulic brakes on bikes but have on cars. There might a leak some place? You can see if there is a loose connection there must be a container where you can add some brake fluid. Then you try to get some pressure by holding in the brake handles. You might need someone to help you because you have to open a bolt that can let the air out while there is some pressure on the brake handles. You have to close the bolt (that might not be the correct word but it looks like a bolt with a hole so you only have to open it a little) when there is still pressure from the handle so that means open and close fast under pressure. You might have to repeat several times and on each brake. If you get the air out you can see if there is a leak if it’s on a connection try to tighten the connection. There is special equipment for bleeding brakes also but you can try this first it,s cheaper. I can’t remember all the technical words in English.
