What do the great minds here think of using CLP as a chainlube? Has anyone tried it?

No opinion from me. Give it a shot and let us know!

I have absolutely no idea, I use ProLink but, I'm always interested in hearing opinions on other lubes.

I've used Tri-Flow for years, on all of my bikes. Some folks have commented that they believe it collects too much grit, but the only chain I've ever had to replace was on the Batavus Course, and that was because it was all corroded up when I got the bike.

Living in the Arizona desert, I can't imagine a more gritty, dusty place, and I just don't see it on my bike chains.

Point well taken BluesCat. I've been using CLP on my guns for years and I've never picked up any grit or a spot of rust. I also use CLP the way some people use WD40, as a general do-all solution for everything, and I've been delighted with it.

For some reason though, I've used White Lightning exclusively on bike chains. It's supposed to be clean, but after a few weeks it's black and nasty, you'd think I was using axle grease. It comes off on my hands real easy but I can't get it off my hands for nuthin'. What's up with that? I think I'll give CLP a whirl next time I lube my chain.

I've used White Lightning, Pro-Link, Tri-Flow and Dumonde Tech. They all have their strength and weaknesses. WL does not work well when it's wet. Tri Flow is cheap and works well in all conditions, but is nasty. Dumonde Tech leaves the chain feeling sticky and in my mind's eye, sticky ain't lubricated.. I've gone back to Pro Link and been pretty happy. The key is to keep your chain wiped down. I usually do an application, wipe down the chain real good, do another application, wipe it down and let it sit.

I've too have used White Lightning in the past, garrybuck is right, it's not too white. I've also gone the WD 40 route, that's one route I'm trying to forget by the way. Phil's Tenacious oil is good too but also a bit messy. I'm very happy with the Pro Link, like Mark says put it on, wipe it down, put it on again and let it sit. I usually put it on every 2-3 weeks, and always after a ride.

Everytime I think about White Lightning, I think about my old Vision on the bike rack, sitting at a gas station in Utah, somewhere. It was a hundred and messed up outside and this crap was literally dripping off my chain. EWWW.

Pro-Link seems to be the best all-around lube I've come across. I would give the nod to Tri-Flow except it is so nasty.

Oh yeah..... I don't care what all the buzz is on BROL...... WD-40 is NOT coming ANYWHERE NEAR my bicycles! I suckered in on the Dumode Tech thing.... Not again! think it's almost humorous how many of the Dumonde people have now jumped in on the WD-40 bandwagon! Flavor of the month, I guess!

My understanding is that WD40 is not a lubricant, it's essentially kerosene.

What's nasty about Tri-Flow? I'm not being argumentative here, I just don't know what you mean. Is it gummy, dirty, smelly....?
