PostSubject: Grimstad Norway   Sat Feb 07, 2009 12:17 pm

My curiosity got the best of me about our Nordic friend Peder and his hometown, so I Googled "Grimstad Norway" and got the Grimstad Tourist website (www.grimstad.net). The whole bloomin' town looks like a picture postcard! Of course I know that a town will put its best face on its tourist website, but the place has my vote for an RRSC meet-n-greet, just in case we all win the lottery and can afford to get over there ...in "sommer", not "vinter"... sunny

+1! Peder has shared photos with us on the Cruzbike site. I agree it's a beautiful place in the summer.

I'm sure it's beautiful in winter too - I'd most likely enjoy it looking out a window from a cozy room with a fire in the fireplace and a steaming mug of glogg in my hands (Peder - they do have glogg in Norway, don't they? Or is that just a Swedish thing?)

There are two cycling clubs in our town and I’m not a member of any of them! Here is a link to one of them http://www.focc.no/
On one of the links you can see pictures from a party. Some people drink beer and gløgg and other drinks and some even drink too much!

If you look at some of these pictures you will see me nr. 60 the only recumbent in the race.

Thor he is from Grimstad and a good racer.

My partner with the recumbent company is one of the people swimming the last day of the year to cold for me. There are several pictures from the winter swimming event.

Our company you can also see my partner.
Summer is of course better here but winter can be alright?

PostSubject: Pictures?   Mon Feb 09, 2009 9:42 am

I tried to post a couple of pictures also read the forum instruction but wasn’t able to. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures in the future. Saturday we had a lot of snow so I got some exercise shuffling snow. Sunday was our most beautiful winter day I went skiing. The picture I wanted to post was with me and my Yorkshire terrier with snow on the trees and clear blue sky temperature -3°C.
Winter with snow and good weather is also is also a good thing if you try to make the most out of it! Very Happy
The skiing conditions couldn’t have been better I can put on my cross country skis outside my garage and have only 200 meters to a nice track which is machine prepared for skiing. It’s also a nice area when there is no snow. Some winters we have no snow and when we have snow it doesn’t last very long here by the coast.
My ride to work this morning on my Sofrider was nice they had cleared the roads well for cycling.

PostSubject: Ski   Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:35 pm

They had a ski festival in the center of town on Saturday. I wasn’t there but I did have a ski trip in the afternoon a very beautiful day. Here is a link to some pictures they actually transported snow so people could use their skies on one street for this one day. http://www.agderposten.no/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=AP&Dato=20090215&Kategori=FRITID&Lopenr=378512288&Ref=PH Just click on "neste" if you want to see more pictures.
We have had a stable winter the last few weeks and now it’s snowing this time of year we can sometimes get much snow. Last year we had no snow in February and I was able to ride my Phantom with summer tires a few times in the weekend. This year only the Sofrider is safe to use with winter tires. Very Happy

The winner of stage three of the tour of California is from Grimstad Thor Hushovd. I have been in a couple of local races with him but he’s faster then me even if I have a recumbent? Smile I suppose I started late and he is some years younger. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2009/feb09/feb18news

Here are some pictures from a local race for runners.
This isn’t from our town but I pass this area on longer rides.
I run but I don’t compete.

I take it that's a cross country race of some kind? Beautiful country Peder.

Thanks,

Hey, here's an idea:

There's gotta be some money in some "stimulus package" somewhere for research into "alternative transportation." We should see about getting a grant for some ... ah ... investigative trips to someplace where the bicycle is a much more vibrant part of the transportation system ... oh, say, someplace like ... Grimstad Norway!
