For an upright bike, Brooks saddles are the only way to go. I did double centuries on Brooks and would not have considered anything else for such a task (on an upright).

My LHT has a Brooks sprung saddle and there have been a few times where I haven't even bothered to wear padded shorts while riding it, in fact if I'm just going shopping, to Starbucks or running other errands around town, I never wear them. It's the most comfortable upright bike I have ever had. The saddle felt pretty good out right of the box but after only 2 proofride applications and 300-350 miles it was great. Now after about 1700 miles it is absolutely fantastic. It is, I dare say, and blasphemy to some but the LHT is almost as comfortable as my Stratus.

Some of my best friends ride diamond bikes. The ones I trust demonstrate that they are, indeed, comfortable in that posture on the saddle. I don't understand it, but it must be true.

The folks I have little patience for (as they have none for me) are the riders who think it HAS to be painful or you aren't 'biking'.

I never tried a Brooks. Tried 100 other things, gel shorts, gel seats, no pads, rock seats, different postures, tucked, upright. My old GT had 53 different hand positions for variety and stress relief. I NEVER got comfortable on the diamond bike. The yellowbike is my wondermachine, and I'm a stickin' to it. Cue the Carlton Heston quote.

And I still fervently profess, no matter what it is -

I had a guy jump on my 6 during a double century once. I had a Trek 5200, which was fairly high zoot for the time, but it was set up with a Brooks saddle, which is kind of... low tech in comparison. Anyway, I turned to acknowledge the guy sucking my wheel and he explained in an apologetic sort of way that a buddy of his told him if he found himself in trouble (this was his first double), he could always trust a guy with a Brooks saddle. You know... I believe there is something to that!

I trust you, Mark! Brooks or no. Shoot, if I could keep UP with you 'on your six', I'd probably follow you right off the cliff! Very Happy
