This was the first year, and it turned out to be a really good event. Randy the owner was truly very hospitable. He was alway available for questions and comment. There were tours of the factory, and we were able to ride all the different bikes. The Sat ride was excellent. True to Kansas the 40 mile ride was mostly flat. This goes clear back to the 1934 self serving ruling against recumbents, mainly by the french. This kind of ruling would have kept us using slide rules instead of using computers!!! I went for a solo ride this morning and it was in the mid 90's, 94 to be exact, by 9:30 but at least there was a 10 mph wind, too bad it was out of the south!!! I finished about 45 minutes ago and it was only 96*. I know I have a hard time motivating myself in the winter when it gets down into the mid 50's but I don't seem to have any problems riding in the summer when the heat index could be double that! For those of you that didnt get the word, the Rans team won the four man RAAM trophy. The team rode the X-stream LWB bike. On one of the RAAM daily pages, the writer said the RANS team exploded the myth that recumbents cant climb. The mention in fact that in some of the mountain legs that they even extended their lead! Anyone had problems with your feet falling asleep while on a ride. Lately, both of mine have been doing at. Usually after about 30 miles. I can stop, work it out and ride again, only to have them do it again in a few miles. I'm currently using mountain bike shoes, and Shimano SPD pedals. These same pedals on my road bike with road bike shoes has been great, but maybe not on my Rocket? Any suggestions or ideas?
