Got home from work and found a box on the porch. My used Cruzbike kit has arrived. Everything appears to be there except for a couple of washers. I will review the instructions in the morning and start assembly on Thursday.

The kit:

The doner:

Standover height is 28". My inseam is 29". It's going to be close. Started stripping the doner. I'm going to have to fire up the compressor and get the air chisel out to remove the brazons on the top tube so I can test fit the seat. I need to start getting ready for work so that's a project for tomorrow.

It's going to be a high seat, no doubt, but you should be able to get a taste for how it's going to ride. It looks like you're going to need a quill stem adapter, which means you won't be needing the super long bolt for this build. Keep it, though, because when you get a better frame, you will.

COOL! Bike projects are the best!

Haven't quite figured out how the steering post will attach to the adaptor. It appears that the tube is flared on one end but there is no clamp in the kit and none called for in the parts list. Maybe it will come clear when I get the adaptor. I’ve never had a threadless headset. scratch

I’ll loose a little height when I switch from knobbies to a road tire. Not too worried at this point. I want to spend as little money on this experiment as possible so the adaptor and some cables are it. Once I’m sure I like it I’ll find a better donor.

When I got married the first time, in the late 1970’s, I had a pair of 3” platform shoes. My ex-wife is 6’1” and I’m 5’10” I had to do something. Wish I still had those shoes, they’d come in handy when I start to ride this thing. Laughing

The clamp is on the end of the TFT tube, the part with the pivot. It looks like it's already assembled for you.

Actually, it looks like both pivots are pre-assembled, which will save you some time. My second build took the better part of a day and that included removing it from the original bike I built and installing it on this one. I also had to use a quill adapter and had to file the cap down so it would go up inside the riser.

Any reason I couldn't use a standard quill and just cut the riser off?

No reason at all, so long as you end up with something close to 1 1/8". You can probably shim, if you're a little shy.
