PostSubject: The Cat vs. The Dog Days   Fri Jul 10, 2009 9:22 pm

Man, the temps in Phoenix have driven ol' BluesCat into the shade! No

It's hovered around 110° F all week, and usually that only affects me when the humidity is up there, but it's been pretty dry. Even getting into my car in the afternoon is brutal. Don't know what it is, but maybe the fact that there hasn't been a lot of wind has something to do with it.

Still got about 40 miles this week by following a strategy of putting in about 30 minutes just before the sun comes up in the morning, and heading out at night to do a Starbucks run a little after 8:00 PM.

This weekend it is supposed to top 115° F! Who let the dogs out??

How's everybody else doin'?

So far, so good. We've only been in the 90's and it cools down nicely at night. I keep hearing, though, that we'll be heating up. We'll see how it goes.

Not so good. I don't like riding in the rain, unless I have to and we've been getting a lot of it lately.

Well, now that you asked....

Have been trying to get in above 30 everyday during the week, sometimes sneaking into the lower 40s. Temperatures have been in the 90s, but I am cruzing. Next week M-W, my golfing buddies and I are going to Sebring. They will be playing as much golf as they can and I will be riding the route for the Tour of Sebring that occurs during Labor Day Weekend. I will probably ride one section in the mid-morning on Monday, the whole thing on Tuesday and let them chase me down on Wednesday. Normally the heat does not bother me, but will be taking extra water just in case.

Of course all of this could change in an instant as I will try to ride with the upwrongs tomorrow on their club ride and over oscillate. I have found that while increasing my cadence, if I start oscillating with legs and arms, disaster comes real quick. Still thinking that if I lower my seat more (center of gravity goes down) it will be even more stable. Any thoughts from my fellow genusieses? scratch

Not too bad, temps in the low to mid 90's with the index around high 90's low 100's, the only problem is that the mid afternoon thunderstorms make for a Sauna out there. Still beats the hell out of snow though! Very Happy

I checked the temperature after getting back from Starbucks tonight, at around 8:45 PM.

104° F.

Gonna try to get out around 5:00 AM tomorrow morning, see if I can put in 15 miles or so before I fall back asleep in the seat of the EZ Sport. I'll try to remember to clip-out before I get drowsy.

I heard an interesting quote the other day. A man when asked why he moved from Chicago to Arizona replied: "You don't have to shovel sunshine."

It just takes practice and lots of miles for it to become second nature. Bottom line, you're thinking about it too much.

Yeah, Phoenix is kinda known as "Chicago West." A lot of transplants from Chi live here; a lot of Cubs fans. As a matter of fact, the BluesCat was born in Chicago, was only three months old when my folks moved to Arizona. Lived most of my life in Phoenix, though I lived in Flagstaff for nine years and Tucson for about six months.

Love the desert.
