PostSubject: No Wind? Really?   Wed Feb 04, 2009 5:46 pm

I rode to work this morning and for the first time in forever, there was no wind! I almost fell over because of lack of wind!

Really, it was great! They're calling for rain tomorrow, so I might take the long way home tonight.

It’s good to hear you can experience a ride without wind! Very Happy Today there was no wind which is very normal here. It was -3° this morning good riding temperature. Smile It’s good to hear you can experience a ride without wind! Do you have wind almost every day? Are all seasons windy or is there a time of year when there is little wind? Wind can be good if you get it from the right direction? Cool

Usually, the Santa Anas are an issue from mid/late October to sometime around now into early Spring. This year has been windier than some, I think.

Peder - I hope that when you said it was "-3 degrees" you were speaking in Celsius; even so, anything below the freezing mark would not prompt me to say it's "good riding weather" but would instead cause me to crawl back under the blankets and whimper for April to arrive...You're a hardier man than I am, I readily admit.

+1 Peder is my hero for winter riding. I whimper when it's below 50 degrees.

PostSubject: Winter   Sat Feb 07, 2009 9:30 am

I have been riding all year for a long time. The last two years on my Sofrider now I can ride in Comfort! How you dress up is important wool is good and an outer garment that stops the wind. I use gloves were all the fingers are together they keep me warm up to -10° then I have room for an extra pair. I have only used the extra pair once this year it was -13°C. The next day it was much warmer when you pedal you get warm. I have also been fishing on a boat with a neighbour in the winter. That’s much colder not much movement on a small boat and getting fish out of the nets isn’t easy with big gloves! On a boat in the winter I put many layers of clothes. When I cycle I don’t have many layers many put on too much and they get very sweat. One thing I found out a long time ago it’s not that cold when you start cycling. I also have a streamer but don’t use it in winter too many bumps.

Peder is my wintertime hero - I ride in South Carolina where the August temps often get into the triple digits and the humidity is brutal. Can I be a summertime hero? Or am I just yer basic idiot with pedals? "Mad dogs and Englishmen (and bicyclists in Dixie) go out in the noonday sun" clown
