The official document states:
Effective immediately, the following are implemented per KNPR 1600.1, Chapter 19 for those riding Bicycles on Kennedy Space Center:
Bicycles are prohibited on primary roadways from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Bicycle riders must comply with the provisions of Florida State Statute 316.2065.
* Bicycle riders should follow the same rules regarding driving a motor vehicle.
* Stay on the right side of the roadway along the curb or near the pavement edge.
* Helmets applicable to age 16 and younger.
* Must have lights during the hours of darkness.
* Keep two hands on the handlebars.
* Must have adequate brakes to stop bicycle.
Bicycle Safety
KSC Employees and Contractors are reminded that KNPR 1600.1, Chapt 19, (para G), states bicycles are prohibited from operating on primary roadways (SR 3, SR 405, SR 402, SR 406) during peak traffic hours, 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., for the rider's safety. Bicycle riders are also reminded that Florida State Statute 316.2065 also applies and the same basic rules that apply to motor vehicle drivers are applicable to bicycles and riders, regarding lights, brakes, stopping, yielding right of way, staying on right side of roadway, etc.
I think the times are a little long. Most people are at work by 8 and off by 5. I have driven these roads during rush hour and would not want to ride a bike then but I was going to try it on a Sunday, I work Sunday - Thursday. I may call security to see if it's O.K. on weekends or if it's 7 days a week.
