PostSubject: road tested several Challenge recumbents   Wed May 20, 2009 6:27 am

I have been looking to upgrade from my vision 40 to????????
So my quest took me to Colorado Springs, and Angeltech where Kelvin was a great help me understand nuances of all the recumbents that he represents.

After two days of riding at 7,500 ft. I left with a good idea of what would work for me. The moment I got home I jumped on my V-40 and went on a soul searching ride. Still fresh was the feel of the Challenge bikes. This was the best thing i could have done. I have to say that the V-40 is a great bike, but the Challenge Serian is the cats meow!

Can I live with the V-40? YES I can, but I ordered a dual 24"wheel version of the Serian with suspension front and rear. I will be waiting for about 6 weeks for delivery. I hope to get it out on another social ride when it arrives.

That's way cool, Carlos!

What made you go for 24" wheels, if I might ask? Are you concerned about the availability of tires and tubes?

I can't wait to see it! The next SCARS ride is on the SART in San Bernardino-Riverside. Jana is putting that one together for June. No date has been set, so you will probably have your bike by then.

Congrats!!

Mark

Hi Mark,

I tested both 26" & 24" the 26 is smoother, but the 24 does make it easier when starting and stopping. Amazing what 2" difference makes. I was able to ride all the bikes side by side. and decided that within a month of riding I won't notice the difference. I am not concerned about the availability of tubes and tires. If it becomes an issue. I will just stock up, and my local bike shop that does not stock that size told me not to worry about it either.

Keep me posted on the upcoming ride. Maybe my new bike will be here for it!

FYI: When my Challenge arrives my Vision-40 will need a new home.

After I saw your post, I went to the site.... Nice looking bike; I assume you went with the Underseat steering?

Like I said, I'm anxious to see it.

Mark

You assumed correctly. Underseat steering front & rear suspension, and in Hollands race color
Orange. I am very excited. Maybe just a little too excited.

I love the smell of packing tape in the morning. Smells like ... Christmas!

Didn't Robert Duvall say that in Apocalypse Now?

Nice to see you got your dream machine Carlos Very Happy
Sorry about being late to the party, but I came down with the flu
I think I had planned the June SCARS ride on the "upper" SART to occur on 6/13
5/31 is R42Pilot's ride to Greenspot, so 6/6 is too early
I'm signed up to do a 200K Brevet in Utah on 6/20
and Bentup is having the Recumbent Rally on the 6/27
Hope to see you out on the road soon!

Embarassed
Also, Reading this
Carlos, don't automatically assume that you need to get your Vision a new home when your challenge arrives - having two bikes comes in handy esp if one has to have extended shop time Wink
