PostSubject: Growler Ride   Fri Jan 16, 2009 4:39 am

Our local bicycle club does a weekly ride around our town and out to Hangar 24. The idea is to fill growlers, or just share a couple pints among friends. I hadn't been doing this ride because I usually commute on Thursdays. This week, I took it off because I thought I was meeting a friend after work to conduct some business, which fell through.

So, I did the growler ride. Nice, casual pace. There were acouple fixxed gear bikes, a cruiser tandem, a mountain bike, a road bike and myself. We all had lights and tail lights, so we made for a nice well illuminated parade. Good times, good beer and a safe ride home. What more can you ask for?

Hey, Mark - I just want to know, how do you get the beer to follow you (closely) on your bike? Laughing

I can see it now - you explaining to the Highway Patrol, "No, no, it's not a keg, it's a barrel-shaped aluminum hydration pack! Don't you guys know anything about bicycling?"

Honest to God true story.

I did the Rosarito to Ensenada (Mexico) ride three times. Every time I did it, there was this crew of Marines from Camp Pendleton that did the ride.. Several bikes, but one tandem with a trailer. On the trailer was a cooler and a very loud stereo system. Of course, the cooler was full of beer and of course the loud stereo system was at full blast. Well, they actually had to stop along the way to replenish their cooler! They would ride up and take beers as they were rolling. The last year I did it, the tandem crashed and we didn't see them the rest of the way.

Seems to me that unless you sweat a whole lot, you'd need to take several stops to ...er, drain the radiator, or else wear one of those thingies the astronauts used to wear. I think the official NASA name for it was "Space Whizzer"...

Actually what they now use are Depends. The "Space Wizzer" had to be attached. With women now flying it was deemed easier to use disposable diapers than re-design the Wizzer.

I always thought there was a market for Depends among the younger crowd. Especially here in SoCal where there is always a line at that bathroom. Repackage them and call them "Party Pants". I had the jingle written and everything.

"THE ADVENTURES OF SPACE WHIZZER and his sidekick Stinky" brought to you by Party Pants! With Party Pants, you can party till you p--- ... oh, never mind.

Oh, by the way; is a growler anything like a schooner? If so, I suppose the goal is not to fill one but rather to empty (at least) one?
