I never trust anybody anymore. I'm only convinced they see me when and if I make eye contact and even then I'm not totally convinced. Too many times I've made eye contact only to have the driver pull out right in front of me.

It almost seems like riding visable and predictable no longer applies. Everyone seems to be in such a hurry and their only concern is themselves.

I'm with you, rydabyk.

Of course, I learned --- over thirty years ago --- that if you are on two wheels, even if you are motorized, four-wheeled motorists do NOT see you.

You'd think I would remember that. Luckily, I didn't get taken out as I was reminded of it last Thursday.

Yes but, you have to mutlipy that many times over in todays world with cell phones, text messaging etc. It's one reason high gas prices don't bother me at all, let it go to $10.00 a gallon, I really don't care, it puts less cars on the roads. I'd like to get where I'm 90-95% car free, I'm about 75-80% right now. If I would just re-retire I could probably do it rather easily.

If gas gets to 10.00 per gallon, are we ever going to have some cool Interstate bike paths. thumbs up

If gas ever gets to $10/gallon, lots of folks will probably find out that if you take the seats out of the back of a Suburban (Escalade, Navigator, Expedition, whatever) it makes a pretty nifty greenhouse, tool shed, dog house, or bicycle storage shed...

Considering the lack of public transportation in the Phoenix metro area, if gas ever went to ten bucks a gallon one of two things would happen:

1. There would be a bike shop on every major street corner in town (a la gas stations in the Fifties and Sixties)...

or

2. The place would be a ghost town.

It's not a matter of "if", but more a matter of "when". It's well documented the oil supply will not last forever.

We need to go back to living the way we used to; working and playing in close proximity to where we live.

What a concept, eh? Maybe then, since we'll know more about our neighborhoods, we would also get back to knowing the PEOPLE who live in our neighborhoods a little better, so when somebody who doesn't belong starts creeping around we'll be able to bag the burglar before he burgles. And maybe then, since people probably will be out walking and biking more, we can make a dent in the obesity problem which is running rampant in America. And maybe then we won't be so dependent on foreign oil that we can tell our "allies" like Saudi Arabia to go shove it up their ...

Uh ... excuse me, Mark. Help an old guy down off his soapbox? frustrated smiley

Back on topic.

This morning was my first bike commute since my double-jeopardy of last Thursday. Decided to take it easy, not exert myself too much.

My average speed was about one mile-per-hour slower, and my 8 mile commute took me about three minutes longer, total.

I only had to stop at two traffic lights, though, and I even took a minute to circle back and chase the ducks by the canal path.

Boy, was it fun. thumbs up

I wish I only had an 8 mile commute instead of 48 each way. No
